Duchess of Gloucester visits Exeter Care Home
Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Gloucester recently visited Exeter to officially open a new wing at The Lodge, one of Exeter’s premier care homes.
Owned and operated by Elizabeth Finn Care, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the charity Turn2us, The Lodge provides permanent and short stay care, as well as end of life care. In order to cater for increased demand, the Tremlett wing has recently been completed to provide an additional 16 rooms, two of which are suites suitable for couples. Each room features state-of-the-art facilities to deliver a superior residential experience, including the latest in shower and non-touch flush systems. The suites also boast a small kitchen and living area for independence if desired, with French doors to the outside area
The new wing was named after Walter Tremlett who had the original house built in 1880 and along with his brothers, were very prominent in the Exeter business community, owning paper mills and tanneries.
The Duchess has been Patron of the charity Turn2us for many years and first opened a wing in 2007. Many of the staff from that ceremony still work at The Lodge today.
During her visit, Her Royal Highness inspected the new wing and spent time chatting to both residents and staff.
Richard Hawes, CEO of Elizabeth Finn Homes comments:
“The Duchess of Gloucester has been the patron to the charity (Turn2us) for many years and has always supported the homes and the great work they do. I am delighted with the new wing and extended conservatory, and I would like to pay tribute to all involved in this successful project, which not only allows us to offer more premium care in the Exeter area, but also to continue providing employment and training opportunities in this important sector.”
Deborah Skinner, General Manager of The Lodge comments:
“We are very excited to be able to offer additional facilities for the people of Exeter. Together with our long-serving and dedicated staff, I am sure this extension will allow us to continue delivering first class care for discerning local residents. It was lovely that Her Royal Highness took time to chat with residents and staff alike, and her visit was a wonderful occasion.”
