Local care home lights up the skies at its annual Christmas Fayre
Merlewood care home in Virginia Water, part of the Elizabeth Finn Homes group, held its Annual Christmas Fayre on 29th November, with residents and staff welcoming friends, family and the wider community.
The event featured an array of festive stalls from local vendors offering seasonal gifts, which included bespoke Christmas decorations, gift hampers, pottery, jewellery, wine and cheese and luxury toiletries. Cards designed by the residents were also on sale with proceeds from these, a raffle and a tombola, raising money for the Resident Fund, used to support special trips and excursions.
The Merlewood catering team created a selection of festive treats such as gingerbread and candy cane cupcakes, available to eat on the day and take away. Entertainment was provided by singer Lucy Lou, whose lively performance had everyone singing along and even encouraged some dancing.
The grand finale was however a spectacular 100-strong drone display, courtesy of Elevate Effects, that lit up the skies over Virginia Water. The dazzling show featured festive messages and enchanting Christmas scenes, delighting the residents and all who attended, perfectly capturing the magic of the season.
“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us, supported our residents, and helped make this Christmas Fair a memorable success,” commented Merlewood General Manager, Debbie Vellender. “It was a fabulous day, very much a community event, and a perfect start to the festive season.”
Set in 23 acres of grounds, Merlewood is the flagship home of the Elizabeth Finn Homes care group. Previously the Victorian home of Sir Thomas and Lady Elsie Smith, Merlewood provides residential accommodation for 53 older people on a permanent or respite basis, as well as offering nursing care.
