We have regular resident and family meetings and an open door policy so that all our staff are open to conversations and feedback at any time.

We work hard to provide a range of interesting and stimulating activities and arrange for visitors from the community to entertain, interact and add to daily life and experiences on a regular basis.

Activities at Merlewood

Our social engagement leaders support all staff and Friends of Merlewood, liaising with residents to establish their interests in order to develop personal engagement opportunities in addition to a wide variety of entertainment and outings.

There is a continuous programme of events, including a gentle fitness exercise programme and our social calendar is focused on encouraging mental alertness, self-esteem and social interaction.

The social engagement team at Merlewood are creative and engaging and provide a variety of weekly activities, annual and seasonal events and outings to suit all tastes and interests. Regular activities include gentle exercise classes, carpet bowls, balloon tennis and cinema afternoons. Alongside weekly social events like coffee mornings, flower arranging and crafts. Local outings are a key part of daily life at Merlewood with visits to the local garden centre, historical sites and countryside, keeping the local ducks well fed. Merlewood has links with colleges and schools and the children’s carol singing is a favourite at Christmas time.

Merlewood also opens its doors to many visitors to share a coffee and a chat with, listen to local talks or to welcome singers and musicians.
