Our homes Go Orange in support of Challenge Poverty Week

This week is Challenge Poverty Week and as part of Elizabeth Finn Homes’ commitment to supporting the work of our charity owners Turn2us, we have been up to all sorts of things, all involving the colour orange!

Our staff, residents and volunteers have come up with lots of ideas on how to support this great cause.  Orange outfits, orange food – we have a special Orange-Themed Menu – orange activities and decorations.

The highlight of the week was Thursday, 17th October, designated as International Day for Eradicating Poverty, when our Go Orange campaign came into its own.

Our chefs provided an orange-themed menu of delicious meals for our residents which caused quite a bit of discussion but was enthusiastically embraced. Our kitchen team certainly used their imagination, and the tasty dishes included Sticky orange and ginger chicken strips, Savoury pumpkin pie and Apricot and mandarin trifle.

Everyone was encouraged to wear something orange on the day and each home was tasked with organising orange-themed fundraising activities. This included an Orange Raffle, Orange Bake Sale, Orange themed-quiz and Orange-related crafts.

Even nature participated as the beautiful gardens around our homes are turning orange with autumn foliage.

Turn2us is a national charity providing practical help and support to people who are struggling financially. In the UK 1 in 5 adults and 1 in 3 children are living with poverty. Turn2us believe everyone should be able to live with dignity. You can find out more about Turn2us and their Go Orange fundraising challenge here.

Across our eight homes, we all had a lot of fun, feeling bright and cheerful whilst raising money and attention for a worthy cause.
