Outstanding creativity in our Potted Perfection competition!
To coincide with the celebrations across National Care Home Open Week in June, residents, families, staff and volunteers donned their gardening gloves and created some show pieces worthy of the Chelsea Flower show!
This inter-home competition set out to engage everyone in creating beautiful garden decorations to brighten up the front porches and entrances of our Homes.
Each home was tasked with developing a creative approach linked to the Elizabeth Finn Homes values of Bring love, Welcome all, Inspire more and Act with purpose whilst also reflecting aspects of the company strategy and unique profit-for -purpose model.
The judges were blown away by all the fabulous creativity, teamwork and fun that went into creating them. The winners, The Cotswold Home in Burford, delighted the local community with their display. Focusing on sustainability, the display was made wholly from recycled items, the highlight being ‘Roseabella, the ironing board lady’. As their winner’s prize, they received a stunning ornamental bird bath for their garden.
Second place went to Rashwood, whose display focused on the environment, featuring old style bicycles to highlight the benefits of cycling in reducing carbon footprint, air quality, noise pollution and greenhouse gases as well as promoting public health. A selection of footwear highlights the benefits of walking and gardening. Members of the kitchen, activities and gardening teams joined residents, families and friends to create the display.
In third place was Rush Court, who took inspiration from their residents. Almost half of the residents at Rush Court have mobility problems so the team decided to repurpose an old wheelchair and create a potted man, who they named Adam, to sit in the chair. Residents and staff were helped by visiting children from St Nicholas school, and Rush Court resident Edward keeps Adam fed and watered every day.
Commendable runners up were Merlewood with their D-Day inspired garden, following this year’s 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings, Halliwell with their maintenance team’s wheelbarrow display and Grove Court who planted a mannequin from a charity shop into a floral sculpture.
Thank you to all who took part, and we look forward to the next Elizabeth Finn competition!
