Summer celebrations at Merlewood

Braving the best of the weather, staff, residents and the local community were joined by Cllr Elaine Gill, Mayor of Runnymede, to enjoy a day of celebration in the gardens at our Merlewood care home in Virginia Water.
On Saturday 6 July, the staff held their annual Summer Party, officially opened by the Mayor of Runnymede and attended by residents, families and members of the local community. The home also welcomed back many previous short stay residents as well as families of those whose relatives had spent time at the home in recent years.
It was a joyous occasion with much to keep everyone entertained including various stalls set up by local crafts people, an animal petting farm, side stalls, games and live music from Jayne Emmitt.
Merlewood’s catering team provided a delicious BBQ along with Pimms, ice cream and other refreshments.
“It was a fabulous day for all involved and we are grateful to Cllr Elaine Gill for helping us celebrate and to all those from the local community who came along to support and run stalls,” commented Debbie Vellender, Merlewood General Manager. “It was lovely to see our residents and their families enjoying the great atmosphere and meeting new people.”
Merlewood, a Victorian house set in 23 acres of grounds, is our flagship home and was previously the home of Sir Thomas and Lady Elsie Smith. It provides residential accommodation for 53 older people on a permanent or respite basis, as well as offering nursing care.
