Care Home living, feeling safe and secure

As we get older, the world around us can seem less manageable, daily tasks become more complicated, technology moves ahead in leaps and bounds and older people often get left behind. Face to face communication is increasingly being replaced, banking is carried out online and it is hard to negotiate the automated telephone answering systems.
This leads to feelings of frustration and often insecurity. Technology is a great thing but for our aging population it often brings fear.
A good care home provides a place of sanctuary, away from the worry of dealing with potential scams, house to house callers and difficult financial, maintenance and utility supplier issues. With a frontline of capable, caring staff, residents are shielded from the everyday problems and able to enjoy life without the worry of having to sort out these often-stressful issues.
Everyday essentials such as heating, lighting, food, laundry and cleaning are all taken care of. At Elizabeth Finn Homes, we don’t just take care, we really do care. This care is evident throughout our unique homes. Our restaurant-style dining options, our attention to detail on nutrition and hydration, and changing seasonal menus to suit all preferences and needs. Across our homes we recruit experienced, caring teams of people who represent our distinct values.
To add to the daily care and attention residents experience, our homes are set in beautiful, landscaped gardens kept neat and tidy by our gardening and maintenance teams. Throughout the year, they are places of interest and serenity and our residents can enjoy nature from their armchairs as well as make full use of the grounds when the weather permits. We have plenty of opportunities for gardening for those who have green fingers but without the concerns of mowing the grass or weeding, as one might have when managing a private house.
We all know that many older people feel isolated in their own homes, unable to drive or get out and about to meet people. Living in an Elizabeth Finn Home, there is always someone on hand to share a friendly hello, to check how each resident is and notice if they are not themselves. Our homes are loving places where people flourish and provide a ready-made social environment for residents to share time and stories with a range of people – other residents, local volunteers and visitors, as well as social groups, school children and entertainers. Opportunity for a chat over a cup of tea, to enjoy good food in company, to learn a new skill or join in a specific interest group.
We organise plenty of activities in our homes to stimulate the mind and support physical health alongside regular excursions to places of interest. We celebrate a wide range of cultural highlights over the year and work with the local communities to ensure our residents are well-integrated.
Not only does this lifestyle provide a sense of security for our residents, but family members also have peace of mind that their relative is safe, not stressed with tasks of modern living, that they are cared for and importantly cared about. Often families are dispersed and worry from afar about the safety and wellbeing of their older relatives. We are able to put their minds at rest, keeping communications links open and relatives can be assured that there is always someone they can get in touch with.
We aim, through our core values, to ensure all our residents feel welcomed, loved and receive warmth, care and compassion as well as feeling safe and secure.
Here are some results from our Family & Friends Survey 2024:
99% of respondents believe our staff keep relatives/friends safe
99% believe the resident is well cared for
95% say they feel at peace knowing their relative is in the care home
96% believe staff are kind and compassionate
97% would recommend Elizabeth Finn Homes
We understand that making the decision to move to a care home is significant and that the process of selecting the right home to suit individual needs can be difficult. That’s why we encourage you to come and see us in action, join us for a meal, chat to our staff. We look forward to welcoming you.
