Supporting residents through change

Moving into a care home can be a little daunting, like moving house.  There are lots of things to arrange, things that will be new, and new faces and routines.

At Elizabeth Finn Homes we have been welcoming new residents, both on a long term and short-term basis, since we opened our first care home in 1948.

We warmly welcome all residents, ensuring that every step of their move is as smooth and straightforward as possible. Our dedicated teams are committed to providing time, support, and assistance whenever needed, fostering a caring and supportive environment from the very beginning.

We know the importance of those first few days and weeks and our home teams work together with new residents and family members to make the move an easy one.

Providing warm, family environments, we want to encourage all our residents to feel safe, secure and live as independently as possible.

Site visits and welcome tours

Our new residents and families will already be familiar with their new home from visits made prior to moving in. We ensure that during these visits there are plenty of opportunities to meet staff members and other residents, to ask questions and to see the home in action.

On moving in day, residents will be given a Welcome tour and introduced to key team members and fellow residents.  It may take a while to find your way around, but we will be there to provide help and support.

Getting to know you

We will spend time chatting about your likes, dislikes, life history, family, hobbies and preferences so that we can ensure we continue to provide the lifestyle that suits you and also help you find new pastimes that you might enjoy.  It also helps us introduce you to like-minded residents.

We prioritise person-centred care, with choices driven by you, to ensure that your needs, preferences, and independence are always respected.  We want you to feel at home and build new friendships as soon as possible.

Care Assessment

Prior to moving in we carry out a full care assessment to learn all about the needs of any new resident.  This includes personal care requirements, medical and dietary needs and key contacts.

We ensure that all our team members are aware of these care requirements and able to discuss any aspects with you.

Home comforts and activities

While all our rooms are tastefully and thoughtfully furnished, we recommend bringing your favourite items and pictures to create a personal touch. This could be a picture or other objects or trinkets and of course photographs of loved ones.  Soft furnishings such as cushions or a special throw are also a good idea.

Our homes have great libraries and reading spaces but you can of course bring books to read.   We offer a variety of games and puzzles for you to enjoy independently or with others. Weekly games groups are available to join, along with a diverse range of activities throughout the week, all listed on a published timetable so you can choose what you’d like to be involved in.

We’re always open to new ideas, and you can even set up your own group activity if you wish.

Keeping in touch with family and friends

It’s really important to us that you stay connected to your loved ones. We love to have family members and friends visit our homes, they can join you for a walk in the gardens for a meal or an activity, we have no set visiting times. If you are struggling to reach them, we can contact them on your behalf.

Part of our role is to provide support to family members as well as residents, to ensure that they have peace of mind, feel happy and supported.

Talk to us, we love to talk to you

We are always there to listen and help. All our staff love to spend time with our residents, sharing a story, a cup of tea or just helping you get from A to B. We want to get to know you and welcome you into our community.

Life with Elizabeth Finn Homes is a new start, a next step, one which is filled with love, care, support, understanding and companionship

We can’t wait to meet you.
