Our experienced team provides personalised care in comfortable surroundings, with each resident supported to live life in the way they choose. With spacious accommodation, landscaped gardens, restaurant-style dining and a wide range of activities and amenities, Merlewood combines exceptional care with all the comforts of home.
Originally built in 1856, Merlewood retains much of the character and charm of its Victorian heritage while providing everything residents need for modern, comfortable living.
Today, our 54 ensuite bedrooms provide a welcoming home for residents, supported by a dedicated team delivering compassionate, individual care around the clock.

Our experienced team takes the time to understand each resident as an individual, including their needs, preferences, routines and interests. This allows us to provide personalised care while supporting independence, dignity and choice wherever possible.
With high staffing levels and a commitment to continuous training and development, we work closely with residents and their families to provide the highest standards of care every day.
Accommodation at Merlewood
Merlewood combines the character of the original Victorian house with thoughtfully designed modern facilities, creating a comfortable and welcoming place to call home.
Our spacious open-plan dining room, complete with a fully licensed bar and cinema room, forms a sociable heart to the home, while our drawing room, smaller lounges and library provide quieter spaces to relax, spend time with visitors or enjoy the company of fellow residents.
Outside, Merlewood is surrounded by 23 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, offering wonderful views and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the fresh air and changing seasons.
All 54 bedrooms are ensuite, light and spacious, with fully assisted bathrooms and wheelchair accessibility available throughout the home. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with treasured possessions, photographs and furnishings to make the space feel truly their own.
Merlewood also has a spacious physiotherapy room and fully equipped hairdressing salon, helping residents access additional services without having to leave the comfort of the home.

Led by General Manager Debbie Vellender, our experienced team is committed to providing exceptional, personalised care and creating a warm and welcoming home for every resident.
We take the time to get to know each person, understanding their individual needs, preferences and routines as well as the things that are important to them. From our nursing and care teams to our chefs, housekeepers and Social Engagement Team, everyone at Merlewood plays a part in helping residents feel comfortable, supported and at home.
