A paw-some weekend at Merlewood

Earlier in the month, Merlewood hosted its first canine event, delighting residents, staff, families and local dog owners.

The event brought together 37 dogs of all sizes for a day of dog skills and canine fun, making good use of Merlewood’s beautiful and extensive grounds. Over 80 dog owners, friends and family enjoyed a very entertaining afternoon with obstacle courses for the dogs, unique dog toys on display and a cheese and wine stall with a twist.

The dogs competed in six categories, with the ultimate winner being Molly, the ‘Dog that the judge most wanted to take home’. Merlewood resident Helen sat on the judging panel and there was Doggie Ice cream prepared by the Merlewood team and prizes for all the canine winners.

Residents had prime viewing from the outside terrace area, where they were also able to enjoy a canine related quiz.

“We were absolutely thrilled with the fabulous turnout and support for the Dog Show and to meet all the lovely local dogs and their owners,” commented Sue Stroud Community Engagement Lead.  “There is large dog walking community in the area and Merlewood is the perfect location to bring everyone together”.

“The show was so successful and enjoyed by our residents that we plan to make it an annual event. We hope to welcome our local canine friends and their owners alongside local businesses. “

Following the event, Stressless Dog Training and Coaching who supported the event, have agreed to hold their classes from Merlewood grounds, which the residents are looking forward to watching.
