It’s Gold for Paul, our Maintenance Assistant!

Paul Morgan, our Maintenance Assistant at Merlewood, achieved the Gold Award at the recent Golden Hearts Awards 2026. Selected by the panel of judges from all quarterly winners over the past twelve months, Paul was absolutely thrilled to win the prestigious award and recognition of his peers.

Presenting the award, Richard Ayres, Social Care Advisor to Care England, had this to say about Paul:

“This nominee really stood out because in his role as maintenance assistant it would be easy to stand back and not make those meaningful connections with residents and relatives. But not for this team member. Paul consistently demonstrated compassion beyond his responsibilities, visiting one respite resident between stays, leading to their return, helping another to build and tend a small personal garden outside their room.  His moto is that ‘nothing is too much trouble’ and even the least appealing jobs such as attending to sewers, drains and  winter weather tasks are taken on without a grumble.
