Millie wins national Good Nurse award
At the Great British Care Awards finals Emily Carey of Elizabeth Finn Homes was chosen as the National winner in the Good Nurse category.
Known by all as Millie, she underwent a searching series of interviews at Regional and National level before taking the overall award as the best Nurse in the British care sector.
The Great British Care Awards are a series of events throughout England and are a celebration of excellence across the care sector, culminating in a national award ceremony. The purpose of the awards is to pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated excellence within their chosen field of work.
Aged just 27, Millie has recently been promoted to Clinical Care Manager at Grove Court in Woodbridge, Suffolk. During the selection process for the awards, she demonstrated she is a passionate and caring nurse who wants to make a difference, not only in her own home but in the wider community.
Millie is also raising the profile of working and making a career within the care home sector. Not only was she recognised for encouraging others to develop, she also has a history of supporting and making improvements in other homes for the benefit of people living in care homes.
As well as being an outstanding carer, Millie is also campaigning for other newly-qualified Registered Nurses to make the care home sector a career choice. She is keen to show how care home nurses make a major contribution in relieving the strain on the NHS, and that there are a number of avenues for career progression within this sector.
Richard Hawes, CEO of Elizabeth Finn Homes comments:
“Millie is our Clinical Care Manager at Grove Court in Woodbridge and came to us on completion of her Nursing qualifications. She is notable for having chosen to make nursing older people in care homes her chosen profession. She has a fantastic story to tell and her award showcases how nurses can make the care home sector a career choice and go on to be successful whilst enjoying a challenging and rewarding career.”
Helen Jones, General Manager of Grove Court comments:
“Millie has been part of the Elizabeth Finn family since she joined Grove Court on completion of her Registered Nurse training in 2013. Initially as a Registered Nurse and now as an outstanding Clinical Care Manager she brings her brilliant team building skills, quick thinking and stamina from a serious hockey-playing career!”
